Residents say they are delighted with Balloch library following a make-over to install new signage and improved book layouts.
The popular library was the first in West Dunbartonshire to benefit from the rebranding and branch improvement project which includes book quotes on the wall, use of historic photography and modern information boards throughout.
The café space has comfortable leather chairs giving residents the opportunity to relax while reading the daily newspapers and catch up with the news.
Visitors to the branch will see new display cases promoting the latest books in the library, and clear signage directing readers to their preferred genre.
Junior members will adore the lovable characters on the new mural in the children's section. The wall in the junior section boasts colourful popular animals and the area has mini bookcases filled with eye catching books to keep the kids busy while their parents browse the many books or use the public computers.
Visitors will also find new display boards packed with information from the Council, including up-to-date surgery information and also a community board where local activities and events are advertised. New soft flooring has been fitted along with floor vinyl and inspirational quotes have been artistically placed at the end of bays from famous people and authors.
The changes have proven to be a hit with locals, according to feedback received by library staff.
Feedback from visitors to branch included "Great changes, keep up the good work….Fantastic open space, always welcoming and helpful, a credit to our community….The library looks lovely, clean and bright. Particularly like the coffee station and the local photographs on the wall! Children’s area is also fantastic!.....Before the changes I didn't think you could improve it, but you have proved me wrong-its improved beyond recognition………. Fantastic asset to our community and I would be lost without it!"
Councillor Ian Dickson, Convener of Corporate Services, said: "We are committed to improving our library service and it has been great to see that the recent investment in Balloch has received such fantastic feedback from our residents. The new signage clearly informs the public about the events and training the branch has to offer, the modern seating in the café area offers a comfortable, relaxing spot, while the new children’s area is a great addition. All in all its given the branch a great lift and completes the improvements that took place in 2016 with the new Click and Connect space and installation of a public toilet. The branding and improvement project will now be installed at all our other branches so they have a consistent look and feel and all our residents can benefit.”
Councillor Iain McLaren, Depute Convener of Corporate Services, added: “The rebranding work at Balloch Library has been a great success and has been well received by library staff and visitors. The staff can be really proud of their branch and it compliments all the great energy and activity they provide six days a week."
Claire Baillie, Library Co-ordinator, at Balloch and Alexandria is delighted with the changes.
Claire said: "I have been very pleased with the feedback from visitors who are very impressed with the changes to the branch. Visitors have told us they’re very pleased with the brighter signage and display boards on new books which makes it very easy to see the new titles in the branch. The overall look of Balloch library along with the additional display boards with useful information is a very positive change and I look forward to the upgrade of Alexandria library later this year."
Balloch resident Aileen Stark says she couldn’t live without her local library.
Aileen, said: “This branch really is a life line for me, because of my condition my mobility is limited, so reading is very important. The staff are amazing and they know what books I like to read and have a selection ready for me when I visit the branch.”
