The Council’s Greenspace team are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of conservation projects and maintenance tasks across West Dunbartonshire.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to help improve habitats for wildlife and visitors – and the contribution made by our volunteers has a big impact on the projects we work on.

So if you love nature and would like to meet new people, please join us with whatever time you have to spare.  Tasks for all abilities are available and no previous experience is needed.  Lunch, refreshments and all equipment provided.

Examples of previous projects include:

  • Restoration of the meadow area within Balloch Castle Country Park.  It had become overgrown with dominant vegetation such as broom.  We removed much of the regenerating vegetation to encourage growth of a mixture of native species that will encourage a range of wildlife thus improving biodiversity.
  • Creation of a Forest School site at the Saltings Local Nature reserve.
  • Woodland thinning.
  • Wildlife surveys.

Upcoming projects are available to download below and will be advertised on the events section.

Balloch Castle Country Park, Greenspace volunteer dates - January to June 19
