It is possible in some cases to exhume or disinter human remains from our cemeteries.
In order that an exhumation can take place there are a range of factors to be considered, these include assessing the feasibility of the exhumation, establishing the reason why it is necessary, determining who might be affected and obtaining legal authority.
There can be significant costs involved in the exhumation process and each circumstance will be different.
Legal authority is obtained by petition to a sheriff court which must be prepared by a solicitor.
