Section 50 - Certificate of Suitability in Relation to Food Hygiene
A Certificate of Suitability may also be referred to as a Section 50 Certificate
It is required under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005
The law requires that premises comply with the requirements of the regulations made under section 16 of the Food Safety Act 1990 relating to construction, layout, drainage, ventilation, lighting and water supply or concerned with the provision of sanitary and washing facilities.
A detailed layout plan of the premises to show;
Applications should be submitted prior to the build commencing. This will allow for any alterations to be made at an early stage should there be issues with the layout from a food safety perspective.
Applications are generally processed within 10-15 working days.
The current charge is £361.99 (2023/24). Fees are subject to review at the end of each financial year and may increase.
