The site of the former Carless Oil Refinery, close to Old Kilpatrick on the banks of the River Clyde, is being redeveloped as the Scottish Marine Technology Park (SMTP). The aim is for the SMTP to become a centre of excellence for marine technology, engineering and complex marine manufacturing and to reinvigorate shipbuilding and renewable industries on the Clyde. The project, led by the Malin Group, involves almost 50 acres of developable land. It will provide several large fabrication facilities, offer direct access to the deep-water channel via a deep-water jetty with heavy ship hoist, as well as facilities for smaller scale suppliers and contractors.
