In line with government guidance on social distancing, all cremation services and burials held at our facilities are limited to immediate family only with a maximum of 10 attendees.

This decision to restrict attendance is among a range of measures being implemented to limit the spread of the Covid-19 including asking guests to refrain from handshaking, and the removal of song books and the book of remembrance.

We understand this is a difficult time for families and apologise for any inconvenience or upset this may cause.  We will continue to work closely with them to fully support them and make arrangements in a sensitive way.

Working with Police Scotland, we’ll be closing car parks to prevent vehicles accessing our parks and encourage people to follow social distancing measures which are in place for their protection.

The car parks at Moss o’Balloch, Balloch Parks, Overtoun Estate, Havoc and the Saltings are closed.  

In addition, from 8 April the car park at Lusset Park that serves the Kilpatrick Hills will be closed. 

Local people can continue to access parks in their area on foot and by cycle.

In light of the current situation with COVID-19, we have taken the precautionary measure of limiting all non-essential visits to our care homes until further notice.

The health and safety of our residents is paramount and we are maintaining our stringent health and safety practises and have protocols in place to reduce the impact in our care homes.

In order to maintain contact between friends and family members, we are encouraging increased interaction via social media, letters and video calls. In addition we’re introducing a new online facility to provide regular updates to families on their relatives.

We would like to thanks residents, relatives and friends for their continued understanding and support.

The Care of Gardens scheme is being reintroduced on a phased basis, commencing on Monday 1 June.
Due to the impact of Covid-19, including a much-reduced workforce and requirement for physical distancing, we anticipate that this will take longer than normal to attend to.

If you have an existing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claim, you can advise us of the changes to your income by using our online Change of Circumstances form.

If you do not currently have a claim, you can make an application for Council Tax Reduction using our online claim form

We will not take unreasonable recovery action if you are now having difficulties paying Council Tax

Due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and guidelines around social distancing, all Councillor's face to face surgeries have been cancelled until the end of April.  Councillors will still conduct telephone consultations at the times the surgeries were due to take place.  They are also contactable by email and via members secretaries (  Contact information and surgery times is available on the individual Councillors pages which can be accessed on our Councillors page.

Dalmuir Golf Course will reopen on Friday 29 May.  There are additional rules that all players will be asked to adhere to. Further information is available on the Dalmuir Golf Course page.

Following the closure of a number of our buildings, free dog waste bags can be collected from police stations in Dumbarton and Clydebank.

Our resources are limited at present and we appreciate the efforts of residents to continue to pick up after their pets.

From Tuesday 5 May, dog waste bags will also be available to collect contact free from a warden on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 12pm outside Vale of Leven Swimming Pool, N Main St, Alexandria.

Social distancing will be observed.

We are reintroducing a limited grass-cutting service from Monday 18 May.

This will include essential maintenance of parks and open spaces to ensure they are accessible for residents to use for exercise, as well as free from litter and dog fouling.

Due to the significant impact of Covid-19, including reduced workforce and the requirement for employees to follow physical distancing guidance, this service will initially focus on these areas only.

The process will remain under regular review until a wider service can be resumed.

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness during the period of disruption you should still contact us as soon as possible.  In response to updated government advice regarding the coronavirus outbreak and the need to stop non-essential contact with others,  we will continue to provide services but have changed the way we will do this.

The service for now will be focused on carrying out emergency repairs only, these will be in a category which pose a risk to occupiers or their building and these will be assessed by Technical Staff prior to visiting. 

All other repairs will be suspended meantime and if you had a repair outstanding this will be reviewed at a later date.  Should the situation change we will provide further updates on the website or by text.

Residents can continue to borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, eNewspapers and eMagazines from our extensive online digital collection.

Our out of hours team will be continuing to respond to calls over the weekend and as a precaution we will be conducting a health questionnaire with tenants in advance of arranging visits to any properties.

We understand the emergency nature of the calls we receive and we will ensure we respond appropriately.

To limit social contact, the Council's Pest Control team will be operating a reduced service to Private Homeowners and RSL's. If you have an internal pest control issue, a private company should be contacted in the first instance.  External issues can be reported as normal to Pest Control. 

Council tenants can contact the Council's Pest Control for both internal and external issues. 

In line with the Government guidance on social distancing, all play parks across the West Dunbartonshire area will be closed from today (24/03/20).  

The recycling centres at Dalmoak and Ferry Road will reopen on Monday 1 June.

The facilities will initially operate by admitting cars:

  • If the last number on your registration plate is an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) then please use the site on an odd dates of the month
  • If the last number on your registration plate is an even number (2, 4, 6, 8) then please use the site on an even dates of month

The sites will be open between 9am and 6pm on Monday to Saturday, with last entry at 5.45pm.

Only private cars will gain access to dispose of household waste, garden waste and cardboard, with no more than two people unloading.

Due to physical distancing, limited cars can be on site at one time.  Traffic Management will be in place for both sites, information can be found on the Recycling Centres Traffic Management Page.

Face to face death registrations have been suspended and legislation has been passed to allow Death to be registered remotely.  If you need to register a death and the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death/Form 11 has been issued please contact the registrars on 01389 738350 (Monday to Friday 9am-4pm) and we can provide further advice.


All birth registrations in Scotland are now suspended until further notice.

If you have not been able to register the birth of your new baby due to birth registrations being suspended over the Coronavirus, you can still make a claim for Child Benefit.

If this is your first child, fill in the Child Benefit form and send it to the Child Benefit office.  Please add a note with your application stating that you have been unable to register the birth due to the coronavirus.

If you are already receiving child benefit you can add your new baby on to your application by calling 0300 200 3100, you will need your National Insurance Number or Child Benefit number when you call.  You can also complete a child benefit form if this is more convenient.

No Marriage or Civil Partnerships will be allowed to take place in Scotland until further notice.

Marriage notice forms can not be submitted for any ceremonies taking place.

No Marriage schedules will be issued.

Replacement Certificates 

The West Dunbartonshire Registrars are now unable to issue replacement birth, death, marriage and Civil partnership certificates.  This service change affects all registration offices in Scotland.  A further update will be made when this service is available.

The Scottish Government has announced this afternoon (18/03/20) all schools and early learning centres will close from Friday 20 March 2020.

We have been planning for this over a number of weeks and have been working closely with our headteachers to ensure learning can continue in these circumstances.

We have developed a range of online resources including Google classroom; will be providing devices where needed and have also prepared learning packs.

Our planning has also taken into consideration the fact that so many in our community rely on our education facilities for more than learning, including our most vulnerable families.

In response to the current Coronavirus outbreak (CoVid-19), and after careful consideration and discussions with West Dunbartonshire Council, the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton. The decision is based on the latest guidance from the Scottish Government, as well as advice taken from key partners.

We would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the event and look forward to the 2021 championships.

We have suspended new special uplifts of bulky items but we will honour uplifts which have already been paid for.

In line with government advice on reducing social contact and it’s recent decision to close all schools from Friday, West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust has taken the difficult decision to suspend all services and activities to the public from close of business on Friday 20th March until further notice.

This closure is across all leisure & community facilities both indoor and outdoor and applies to all facilities that West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust operates.
