Residents in Pappert will benefit from a brand new all-weather sports pitch after the Council approved additional funding for the project.
An existing community play park was already due to be upgraded as part of a development to build 26 new council homes at the site.
Now additional funding has been agreed to ensure a high-quality facility can be secured in the community and enjoyed for generations to come.
The agreement came following a motion to a meeting of West Dunbartonshire Council on Wednesday, from Depute Council Leader, Councillor Michelle McGinty, when she noted the community’s concern about the removal of existing facilities as part of the new development.
Councillor McGinty said: “As part of proposals for the 26 new homes at Pappert there were already plans to improve and enhance a play area and pitch at the location.
“After speaking to members of the community and listening to their queries about enhanced recreational facilities in the area for young people now and in future years, I was keen to bring forward a motion to support this.
“I am pleased we agreed to fund this new pitch, as I know it will be a great asset for residents in the area, supporting their health and wellbeing as well as giving them a place to come together as a community.”
The Council’s Housing budget will provide £75,000 of funding, with the remainder of the cost of the sports pitch – which is estimated to be in the region of £250,000 – coming from the Council’s General Fund.
A planning application for the housing development has been submitted, with the outcome expected later this year.
