The search is on for West Dunbartonshire’s community champions as nominations for the Provost’s Civic Awards in partnership with CCG open today.

The awards celebrate residents who make a significant contribution to improving the local area and the lives of people who live in West Dunbartonshire.

The local heroes chosen as finalists will be recognised for their work at an awards ceremony held in Clydebank Town Hall later this year.

Nominations can be made under five categories - arts and culture champion, sports champion, community/voluntary champion (individual), community/voluntary champion (team), and youth champion.

An overall winner from the shortlist from each category will then be chosen as Provost Douglas McAllister’s Citizen of the Year.

Provost McAllister said: "I’m very much looking forward to hosting one of my favourite nights of the year.

"It is so important that we take the time to publically thank the many people in our communities who do fantastic work on a daily basis, regularly going above and beyond to make things better for everyone.

“Often this work goes unnoticed, but this celebration means we can acknowledge this community spirit – something that makes West Dunbartonshire a much better place to live for us all.

“I know of many worthy residents who deserve recognition for the great work they do but I’m relying on the public to nominate them and let us give them the praise they so thoroughly deserve.

“I'm delighted to launch these awards and would urge residents to come forward and nominate the people who make a difference every day to residents in West Dunbartonshire.”

As well as finalists being invited to a celebration at the Town Hall, winners will have their names added to the boards at Clydebank Town Hall.

They will also be guests of the Provost at the King’s garden party at Holyrood in 2024.

Nominations open today (Thursday 17 August) and can be made online at www.provostawards.com

Paper nomination forms are available in libraries as well as at the Council’s Church Street office and Clydebank Town Hall.

The awards are being sponsored by construction and manufacturing company CCG, who have delivered award-winning projects across all sectors of the Scottish construction industry including in West Dunbartonshire.
