Faith Bhardwaj (16) and Rebecca Ross (15) from Dumbarton Academy and Clydebank High have been elected as the new MSYPs for Dumbarton and Clydebank and Milngavie constituencies.
Thousands of young people from all over Scotland have voted to elect their local Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) in the 2024 Scottish Youth Parliament national elections.
Following almost three months of campaigning from young candidates across Scotland, young people aged 11-25 were asked to cast their vote to elect their local MSYP. The elections were open for two weeks and held between Wednesday, 17th January 2024- Wednesday, 31st January 2024
The Scottish Youth Parliament is the democratically elected voice of Scotland's young people. It provides a national platform for young people to discuss issues important to them and affect the change they wish to see.
Speaking after the 2024 SYP election results, Councillor Michelle McGinty, Vice-Convener of Corporate Services, said: “I want to start by congratulating Faith and Rebecca on their fantastic campaign and victory. The young people of West Dunbartonshire have made their voices heard and are now represented by two very capable and passionate candidates.
“The future generation are what will shape society for years to come and I am sure Faith and Rebecca will empower the next generation and inspire positive change. I wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavour.”
Rebecca Ross, newly elected MSYP for Clydebank and Milngavie said “I am so thankful to be elected as the MSYP for Clydebank and Milngavie. I promise to represent the young people in my area, do my best to consult young people and tackle issues young people face in our area.”
Faith Bhardwaj, newly elected MSYP for Dumbarton said, “Thank you so much for this outstanding opportunity. I am beyond grateful and thrilled to have the chance to make a profound impact on my community, especially for young people. I ensure that every individual’s voice is not only heard but given the upmost importance. I would like to thank the people who voted. Your support and trust in me means the world.
