Primary pupils in West Dunbartonshire’s schools are meeting or exceeding the national average in reading, writing and numeracy.
A report to the Educational Services Committee shows a steady improvement in reading, writing and numeracy across primary one, four and seven.
The report outlines that pupils in primary one and four are meeting or exceeding the national average in all areas with pupils in primary seven meeting or exceeding the national target in writing and numeracy. Pupils in S3, meanwhile, are exceeding the national average in listening and talking.
The report also shows a strong increase in attainment at P1,P4, P7 and S3 compared to 2021/22 and that attainment of children living in our most deprived areas has increased in this period reducing the attainment gap between our most and least deprived children and young people.
Convener of Educational Services, Councillor Clare Steel, said: “On the whole, the figures are very encouraging and show that our children and young people are attaining well in their education in both primary and secondary schools. We will continue to work with our pupils and families to ensure every pupil reaches their full potential during their time at school and beyond.”
Vice Convener of Educational Services, Councillor John Millar, said: “Looking at the figures overall it is pleasing to see that we are matching and exceeding the national level in our schools. This is great testament to our teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to ensure every pupil is supported and encouraged to learn and achieve in our schools.”
