Residents who wish to have garden waste collected from their brown bins now have the opportunity to purchase a permit for the 2025 season.
Kerbside collections of garden waste for those who have a valid permit will run from March 31st until the end of November.
Last year, 8782 permits were purchased, with 84 percent of those being bought through an easy to complete form on the Council’s website.
This year’s permits can now be purchased online at www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/garden-waste and will be posted out in time for the season starting.
The permit, in the form of a sticker clearly marking which address it belongs to, will be mailed out to those who sign up and should be attached to the back of the brown bin underneath the handles. Clear instructions will be provided on the permit itself.
Only brown bins containing garden waste which have valid permits will be collected, however residents who do not sign up for a garden waste permit can still use the brown bin to dispose of food waste.
Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, Councillor David McBride, said: “9000 permits were purchased in 2024 which far exceeded the Council’s expectation and residents now have the chance to purchase a permit entitling them to garden waste collections between March 31st and the end of November this year.
“Our focus when it comes to budgets is on protecting frontline services and jobs. Council tax does not cover a statutory collection of garden waste and last year a charge for this service was introduced, similar to most other Councils across Scotland.”
Vice Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, said: “I am pleased to hear that most residents who purchased a permit last year completed the transaction through the Council’s easy to use online form.
“I would urge anyone who wishes to continue to have their garden waste collected from their property to sign up to the scheme now and benefit from the maximum number of collections available this year.”
Residents can sign up for the scheme now and permits will be issued before collections start from March 31st. The easiest and quickest way to purchase a permit is online via the Council’s website at www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/garden-waste where you can also find answers to Frequently Asked Questions. Those who are unable to complete the online form can call the Council on 01389 738282.
