Work has begun on the redevelopment of sheltered housing properties at Willox Park in Dumbarton.

Construction work on 17 new energy efficient properties and a common room is progressing on the site.

In 2024, the 36 homes within the Willox Park Sheltered Housing Complex were designated for regeneration. A consultation exercise with tenants was undertaken with most voting in favour of the properties being demolished and replaced with new modern energy efficient homes.

The project is being funded from the Council’s Housing Investment Programme supported by the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme funding.

Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal, Convener of Housing and Communities, said: “This is an important step in the development of homes for older members of the community.

“I want to thank both the tenants and the Council’s housing officers who have worked collaboratively to achieve this outcome.

“It was vitally important that the tenants expressed their views and housing officers made sure these were properly represented.

“These homes will help with meeting our housing needs for the elderly.”

Councillor Hazel Sorrell, Vice Convener of Housing and Communities, said: “The Council is determined to deliver for our tenants, and I am pleased to see this energy efficient development moving forward. I know the tenants will be delighted to see work start on these high standard homes which will be most welcome.”

McTaggart Construction has been appointed the contractor for the project. As part of the social benefits aspect included in all West Dunbartonshire Council contracts, McTaggart Construction has committed to paying all staff the real living wage and use local companies for sub-contracting opportunities where possible. They have created two jobs and two workplace placements, supported by West College Scotland.
