Residents are being encouraged to help shape the future of West Dunbartonshire’s libraries.

A consultation has been launched for the community to share their thoughts on accessing library services, activities and priorities.

Feedback gathered will be reviewed and contribute towards the development of a new Library Strategy for the next five years (2025 – 2030).

Councillor William Rooney, Convener of West Dunbartonshire Council’s Corporate Services Committee, said: "Libraries are important institutions of empowerment in our community. They offer a wide variety of reading materials, including physical and online books, magazines, and newspapers, which provide opportunities to read, write, and learn. These resources can also be accessed through school libraries and our mobile library service.

Libraries provide a friendly and supportive environment with access to free Wi-Fi, computers, and other digital devices, complemented by quality ICT training and guidance for individuals who require assistance. In addition, libraries host a wide range of activities that bring people together, such as Book Bug, Baby Yoga, Dungeons & Dragons, and creative writing .

Libraries are incredibly agile establishments, and their utility is determined by the communities who use them. I strongly encourage residents to get involved and have their say in shaping the future success of our libraries."

Vice Convener Councillor Lawrence O’Neill added: “This is an opportunity for residents to share their views on their experiences of accessing library services in our area and to contribute to shaping the strategy for the future of the service. I would encourage people to take the time to contribute and provide their feedback and views.”

The survey is open until midnight on 27 April 2025 and can be completed online here: https://arcg.is/fqn9j0 Alternatively paper copies are available from all library branches.
