Local Development Plan 2: Proposed Plan

The Proposed Plan was approved by the Planning Committee on 19 September 2018 for comments and representations.

The Plan sets out the Council’s strategy, policies and proposals for the use of land within the Council area (with the exception of that part of the authority within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park) for the period up to 2020 and beyond. The Plan’s aim is to create places for people, spaces for investment and destinations to enjoy.

Local Development Plan 2: Proposed Plan Examination

Planning Committee on 22 May 2019 approved the Council’s responses to the representations received to the Local Development Plan 2: Proposed Plan and gave authority for the Plan and associated documents to be submitted to the Scottish Ministers for Examination. The Plan and associated documents was submitted to the Department for Planning and Environmental Appeals (hereafter referred to as the DPEA) on 30 May 2019 and the Examination commenced on 22 August 2019.

The Report of the Examination was made public by the DPEA on their website on Monday 27 April 2020 and all individuals who had submitted representations have also been informed by the DPEA that the Examination Report is now public.

Next Stages

The recommendations contained in the Examination Report are largely binding on the Council. A modified Plan, taking account of these recommendations, will now be prepared and submitted to Planning Committee for approval to submit Local Development Plan 2 to the Scottish Minsters for adoption. This is currently programmed for August 2020.

However, this timeline is subject to change due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and any changes to this timeline will be updated here.

Local Development Plan 2: Main Issues Report

The Main Issues Report was the previous stage in the preparation of a new Local Development Plan for West Dunbartonshire. The Main Issues Report set out the main changes and issues that emerged since the Local Development Plan (Proposed Plan) 2016 was approved.

The Main Issues Report was approved by Planning Committee on 26 April 2017 and was consulted upon between 30th June 2017 and 22nd September 2017. The Main Issues Report can be found below:

Development Plan Scheme

The Development Plan Scheme and Participation Statement for the new Plan can be viewed hereThis sets out what Development Plans cover West Dunbartonshire and the timetable for replacing them. It also sets out how the Council will engage people in the preparation of the Plan.
