Ceasing of Council's Block Building Insurance Scheme

At the West Dunbartonshire Council meeting on 29 October 2025, a report on the Council's Block Building Insurance Scheme was considered.

At this meeting the Council agreed to cease the scheme from 31 March 2026.

This means that owners will need to make their own arrangements for buildings insurance cover to commence from 1 April 2026.

It is important to emphasise that buildings insurance provides financial protection against any damage to the structure of your home, and having appropriate cover in place may also be a condition of your mortgage agreement. Your mortgage provider will be able to advise you on this.

While the Council is unable to provide information on alternative insurance providers, owners are encouraged to research the available options in advance of the current scheme ending next year to ensure suitable cover in place for your home.

Other property payments, including factor fees, are unaffected by the cessation of the insurance scheme. If you currently pay a factor fee, you should continue to do so.

If you are supported by a family member or friend to help you make financial arrangements, please share this information with them.  Furthermore, there are groups who are available to offer support and advice such as Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Age Concern.

If you have opted out of the block buildings insurance, no action is required.
