How do they work?

A Modern Apprentice employed by West Dunbartonshire Council is treated like any other employee and has the same terms and conditions.  In addition to this, you will be offered training. This allows you to achieve a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) at SCQF level 5, 6 or 7 depending on the vocational area and Modern Apprenticeship Framework Enhancement requirements.   You are supported by an Assessor to gather the evidence needed to achieve your SVQ as you work.

On-the-Job

A supervisor works with you to develop key skills such as working in teams, problem-solving, communication and using new technology.

Off-the-Job

You may access off the job training at a Further Education college or other training provider which gives you more technical knowledge and understanding of the job.  This is dependent on the vocational area and level.

How long do Apprenticeships last?

Some Modern Apprentices can be achieved within 9 months. Others take up to 4 years depending on the vocational area and level of the qualification.

How do I apply?

All  vacancies are advertised on www.myjobscotland.gov.uk
