Report an Abandoned Vehicle

Abandoned vehicles are not only an eyesore, they can also become a target for vandals and become a danger to the public.

  • Are any of the tyres flat or any of the wheels removed?
  • Is there excess litter or weed growth under the vehicle?
  • Are any windows broken?
  • Is there mould on the inside or outside of the vehicle?
  • Does it have waste inside e.g. tyres, old newspapers, general rubbish?
  • Are the number plates missing?
  • Does the vehicle have wires hanging from the dashboard?
  • Is the vehicle vandalised?
  • Has it appeared on your road and no one is claiming ownership?

What should I do if I spot an abandoned vehicle?

Do not enter or touch an abandoned vehicle - It may need investigated by the police. It may contain hazardous waste, or pose a health or fire risk.

Do not go near a burning or burnt-out vehicle - Burnt paint, rubber and other materials may be harmful.

If a vehicle is on fire call 999 immediately.

You will be asked to provide as much of the following information about the vehicle as possible

  • Location
  • registration number
  • make and model of vehicle
  • colour
  • general condition of vehicle

An Officer will then visit the location to make a further assessment of the vehicle. This is normally on the same day as the notification is received, or the next working day depending on the time of notification. The vehicle is photographed on site, to provide evidence of the vehicle's condition, registration number etc.
