Ciaran McEnroeCiaran McEnroe

Ciaran joined Dumbarton Academy in August 2018 from out with the associated primary schools, although quite shy, he settled in quickly and established friendships that will carry on beyond his time in school. Through Covid-19 he engaged religiously in his online lessons. When the pupils returned to school he was engaged and had an initial focus on becoming an Accountant. He even considered working outside of his school curriculum to achieve an additional qualification in Accounts in S4, such was his love of the Business Studies curriculum.

Ciaran studied a range of subjects at school including physics, Spanish, geography, sports and recreation etc.

He was involved in a number of extra-curricular clubs, trips and school fundraisers including an overnight ‘Sport-a-thon’ through the P.E. department. These opportunities influenced his thoughts around events that he wanted to organise as a part of his pupil leadership role, when in S6 he was interviewed and was appointed a School Captain by a panel of pupils, staff and a school community representative.

His curricular choices in S6 also demonstrated an evolution in thinking around his next steps in his educational journey. Among other subjects Ciaran chose to study Advanced Higher Maths and Physics. Ciaran’s engagement in these two subjects and his love of study cemented his next steps. His UCAS applications reflected this change towards mathematics, the sciences and engineering.  He achieved a number of unconditional offers before finally deciding to study Mathematics and Physics at Glasgow University.
