Oliwia Pawlowska
Oliwia is a self-motivated and committed young adult whose passion for Art and Design has been obvious during her time at St Peter the Apostle High School. She is delighted to have been offered a place at The Glasgow School of Art where she will be studying Architecture.
Oliwia’s passion for Architecture came from studying Higher Graphic Communication as she enjoyed using a range of skills that she had learned from Art and Mathematics to project design.
During her senior phase Oliwia was encouraged to enrol in The Glasgow School of Art Widening Participation (WP) Programme. This is a programme that is funded by the Scottish Government to support young people from under-represented communities to access the information and experience they need to apply for art school. Oliwia successfully completed the WP Creative Club in S4, The Portfolio course in S5 and then a 10 week Architecture Portfolio course. Oliwia said that the programme helped her meet like-minded people and encouraged her to exchange creative ideas which helped enrich her personal and school creative projects.
We wish Oliwia every success at the Glasgow School of Art.
Amy Cuthbertson
During her time at St Peter the Apostle High School, Amy has always set herself ambitious goals and has worked with real enthusiasm to achieve them. She was delighted to be offered a place in the highly competitive Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Scheme with BAE Systems. This is a five-year course during which Amy will be based in a BAE site in England and will be attending University in London.
Amy's likeable personality enables her to establish and maintain good relationships with staff and other pupils. She embraced her time at St Peter the Apostle High School by taking up many of the opportunities offered to our young people, including Glasgow University’s Access to Engineering programme, The Sutton Trust Summer School and The Mark Scott Leadership for Life award. Amy has enjoyed taking part in many of the different programmes on offer, giving her the chance to research potential career choices, meet new people and make new friends.
Amy has shown great potential for all STEM subjects with her favourite subjects being Mathematics and Physics. In S4 she completed a work experience placement at Babcock and was even given a letter of recommendation from the company.
Amy was looking to try something new after lockdown and decided to join the Air Training Corps in 2021. She is now a Non-Commissioned Officer rank of Flight Sergeant, which is the highest rank achievable for cadets under 18 years old. Amy is hugely passionate about aviation and she hopes that her apprenticeship will give her the opportunity to work on Eurofighter Typhoon and F-35 jets.
Amy is a kind and compassionate young adult. She spends her free time helping those less fortunate by volunteering at the Salvation Army Toybank, and also by completing the Kiltwalk in aid of West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare.
We know Amy will enjoy future success and we wish her all the best.
Ayden McNeilly (S4)
Ayden showed a keen interest in Hospitality and Practical Cookery during his time in S4, and also completed a food safety course, so it was no surprise when he was then offered a place at City of Glasgow College studying Professional Cookery
Ayden should have been a January 2025 school leaver, but the college were so impressed by his passion for cookery and his desire to continue his studies that they offered him a place starting this month.
Ayden said “I loved my college experience and it really inspired me to think about a career in hospitality. I love cooking and can’t wait to get started in August!”
