Road safety staff within West Dunbartonshire work closely with Educational Services to provide a road safety programme in our schools.
Road Safety Staff are committed to delivering an effective, forward thinking service to all road users from pre-five children to the older members of the community.
We work closely with Educational Services to provide a co-ordinated road safety education programme within Curriculum for Excellence. The programme gives children and young people the opportunity to develop this essential life skill. We work with children and young people form 3-18 years
As part of an active and healthy lifestyle we encourage walking and cycling on the school journey. By promoting active travel, through initiatives such as Travelling Green and Bikeability, we aim to improve children's health and wellbeing as well as reducing congestion around our schools.
More information is available at West Dunbartonshire Road Safety.
Our School Crossing Patrol service provides a safe crossing at designated points on our roads. This service makes sure that children cross safely and provides assistance to adults when required.
We train our School Crossing Patrollers in the safe procedure for crossing children and have an annual programme of retraining.
The School Crossing Patrol service is non-statutory function and the responsibility for ensuring the safety of children travelling to and from school remains a parental one.
Junior Road Safety Officers are a huge help to the Road Safety Officer. They help promote road safety issues within the school and local community.
