Staff at Andrew B Cameron Early Learning and Childcare Centre were praised for their leadership during a recent unannounced inspection.
Inspectors highlighted the commitment of the senior leadership team and found significant strengths in the care and positive outcomes for children during the visit. The inspection report, which recorded a ‘very good’ outcome, said staff used warm, caring and nurturing approaches to respond to children's needs.
During the inspection it was also noted that positive relationships with parents had been developed and it was clear staff recognised the importance of working in partnership with families. These relationships allowed staff to gather information on children to ensure their personal preferences were reflected within children's care plans, their routines, preferences and individual targets.
In feedback from parents and carers, the centre was praised for its communications with children and keeping families well informed of their child’s learning and progress. Comments included: "Every Friday I get an update on the app with what they have done, achieved and a few photos. I personally love this part - it's the highlight of my week to see what has been done," and "There is a strong level of communication from the nursery, not only from my child's keyworker but from all staff."
Children were observed playing in a construction area which helps develop their creative and critical thinking skills, while staff also encouraged children's numeracy skills in the home zone and joined in with child-led imaginary play, encouraging a good balance between spontaneous and planned play and learning experiences.
Inspectors found the service was well led by the manager and lead early learning and childcare officer with staff saying they felt very supported and encouraged to suggest changes to the service to provide positive outcomes for children and families.
Councillor Clare Steel, Convener of Educational Services, said: “It is so encouraging to see these positive reports for our early learning and childcare centres and I want to congratulate the manager and all the employees who continue to contribute to the success of the centre. It is pleasing to see how much parents and carers value the centre, which must be a great boost for all the staff. This latest report is testament to our dedicated workforce who are committed to the welfare and education of children under their care.”
Councillor John Millar, Vice Chair of Educational Services, said: “We are committed to providing a great start for our children and I am pleased to see the excellent work highlighted in this report. Children are clearly well looked after in well set-out spaces allowing them to enjoy both internal and external play areas. This is not only developing their curiosity, building self-esteem and confidence, it is giving them an understanding of the world around them.
