Dalreoch United Free Church, Women’s Fellowship is to receive £645 in funding for equipment for their group meetings.

Members of West Dunbartonshire Council Corporate Services Committee agreed to support the organisation by granting the award from the Dumbarton Common Good Fund.

The Women’s Fellowship supports women in and around Dumbarton and provides a welcoming and safe environment where members can meet, share stories and form lasting friendships.

The group will use the funding to replace and renew essential items used by the group including an urn, kettles and teapots and a new soup kettle. Money will also be used to purchase board games; craft and knitting materials.

Dalreoch United Free Church Minister, Rev. Dr Sara Rettie said the funding will help replenish goods used by the group and invest in much-needed new stock.

She added: ““We are very grateful to receive this funding from the Council which will help us to replenish and invest in essential items for our group.  Our group offers women a warm and friendly place to meet up weekly and share stories and help combat loneliness in our community. This money will help support the group and offer members a range of new activities which I know is very much appreciated by them.”

Councillor Daniel Lennie, Convener of Corporate Services, said: “I am pleased to see this funding approved which will have a long-lasting positive impact on the women in the Fellowship. Community groups such as this play a vital role in our communities, providing friendship and support to its members. Not only is the Fellowship offering friendship, they are encouraging members to learn new skills, explore new hobbies and have fun.”

Councillor Michelle McGinty, Vice Convener of Corporate Services, said: “It is great to see this group being awarded money from the Dumbarton Common Good Fund. This will allow them to continue to provide vital support to women in Dumbarton. They hold a weekly group which encourages women to come together, ease the burden of loneliness, meet new friends and spend quality time learning a new skill.”
