Because pigs can easily get and spread foot and mouth disease there are special laws relating to the keeping and moving of pigs. These laws are needed and are important in order to safeguard all of our UK farming industry.

Everyone that keeps a pig, including a pet pig, must comply with these laws. If you do not you will be committing an offence.

Pig keepers must first of all register with Animal and Plant Health Agency. You will find comprehensive health and guidance on the Scottish Government website.

When a pig is moved on and off its holding the Scottish Government must always be informed. ScotEID gather this information for the Government and you must notify them.
