Low cost home insurance

The Council can arrange home contents insurance through Allianz Insurance plc.

Prices start from £0.28 a week for customers living in sheltered accommodation for a £4,000 sum insured, from just £0.43 a week for a £6,000 sum insured if you are aged 55 or over and for all other customers £0.64 for a £9,000 sum insured .

We encourage all Council tenants to take out insurance to protect your furniture, belongings and decorations against fire, theft, water damage and other risks.

Benefits include

  • all postcodes included at no added cost

  • pay weekly with a swipe card or set up a Direct Debit

    Extras

    By paying extra, you can include

  • full accidental damage cover within the home

  • personal possessions cover - including mobiles - anywhere in the UK

  • wheelchairs and hearing aids

  • garden hut, garage and greenhouse structures.

    There's also a handy checklist in the application pack which will help you work out how much insurance cover you need.

    Keeping up payments

    Please note that if you miss a payment the insurers may not pay a claim.  Also, if you fall behind with your insurance, we may cancel your policy.
